Christmas Ornament

If you thought you were done with Christmas, hold your horses...err reindeer?!

Bebe made this sweet ornament for daddy, with my help, of course.  We got the idea from The Crafty Crow blog some time back.  Here are some more pics.  

We used a brown acrylic paint from Walmart and dad's Sharpie marker and red paint marker.  I found a pack of white ornaments in a box, a mix of shiny and matte.  The mattes work best, as the prints didn't smear nearly as bad.  With a 1 yr. old, the no smearing part of the task was a challenge, but as you can tell from the images, the imperfections made it all the better.  I wrote her name in sharpie on one side and the year on the other.  I loved the finished product, a great thing to do in the classroom, with grand kids, or with your own children.

Birthday Bunting

Here's a little DIY project that I'm working on for Bebe's birthday.  I cut felt triangles, and circles, printed out "Happy Birthday" in wordart on colored paper and hot glued it all together, I used extra-wide double fold biased tape to string the flags on.  I'm not much of a seamstress so I hot glued it all together.  Somehow the "y" for "Happy" went missing after I cut it out so I have to add that before I call it complete, but I don't think it's too shabby.  Whadaya think?

Baby has a New Hat

Mamai Tatiana has only been here one week and she's been knitting up a storm.  The color really makes mon petit bebe's eyes stand out!

It hasn't all been knitting and hard work, though.  Today, we took a break to go see the Texas State Aquarium...

and the USS Lexington.

We had a lovely day and finished it with Tatiana's meal of Cabbage Rolls, Mamaliga (polenta), and sauerkraut.  Everything was sooo good.  Once she shares the recipes, I'll share it with y'all!.

My Lucky Day!

Lately, I've been carousing antique stores, fleas, ebay, and etsy for cutter quilts so that I may make baby her first Christmas stocking...without success, mind you.  Well, today my luck has changed.  I pulled into the entrance of my neighborhood this ayem to see the corner house had a yard sale going.  I decided to check it out and, lo and behold, I saw a quilt.  It had a few tiny holes, but it was only two dollars so I bought it.  As I was explaining my intentions to the lady as I paid, she mentioned having some older quilts inside.  She brought out a trash bag full of quilts and asked $4 for the larger ones and $3 for the twin sized ones.  I couldn't believe my ears.  I ended up buying four quilts in all.  My mom and I should have fun crafting with these vintage beauties. 

I'm thinking: Christmas stockings, hot pads, baby's first tooth pillows, and who knows what all else.  I'll keep you posted as the crafting commences.

I can picture little square hot pads out of this one, already!
